Who we are

Grebelsky has gone a long way ever since its foundation. This time line is a summary of our history, including the most significant milestones since 1923 and up to this date.

1923

1923
Mr. Aharon Grebelsky, a pioneer, an entrepreneur, a dreamer, immigrates to Israel from the Ukraine and founds A. Grebelsky Company for marble and stone. He is therefore the first to establish the modern stone industry in Israel.

1930

1930
Mr. Aharon Grebelsky acquires land in "Rehavia", a neighborhood located in the heart of Jerusalem, where a stone factory will later be built and photographs his 3 year old son, Yechiel.

1932

1932
Mr. Aharon Grebelsky decides to move the factory to "Bait Vagan" neighborhood in Jerusalem.

1933

1933
The new factory is equipped with modern machinery, and for the first time uses a gang saw operating on a sand cutting mechanism, as well as a "Karl Mayer" automatic cutting machine.

1936

1936
The factory establishes a fine reputation thanks to its professionalism and expertise. Aharon receives an unusual request from the Muslim Wakf to make repairs in the Cave of Machpela (burial site of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs) in Hebron. A few years later, he also restores the massive columns in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City of Jerusalem.

1950

1950
Mr. Aharon Grebelsky passes away in a young age and leaves behind him a legacy of credibility, professionalism, pioneership and respectability. His son, Yechiel Grebelsky, who has completed his engineering studies in the Technion Israel Institute of Technology at the time, takes over the factory. He changes the name of the company to "Jerusalem Marble A. Grebelsky & Son".

The factory workers manually chisel the stone to be installed at the Wailing Wall Plaza.

1969

1970
The factory moves to "Talpiyot" neighborhood in Jerusalem. It is equipped with a diamond Gang Saw and an automatic Breton polishing line for the first time.

1986

1986
Yechiel Grebelsky locates an area suitable for quarrying in Mitzpeh Ramon and opens the "Ramon Quarry" from which the Jerusalem Gold, Ramon Grey, Ramon Cream and Grey Gold materials are being quarried up to this date.

1988

1988
The factory makes history by being the first in Israel to export its stone goods to North America under the brand "Jerusalem Stone".

1993

1993
The factory produces and installs the stone for the Supreme Court of Israel in Jerusalem, one of the most striking stone buildings in the world.

2000

2000
The factory expands and moves to Har Tuv A, a suburb of Jerusalem. The new factory is export oriented and is equipped with state of the art machinery brands such as Pedrini and Simec.

Yechiel appoints his sons to lead the factory. Hanan becomes in charge of the production and Arik takes over marketing and sales.

2002

2002
Yechiel receives the "Yakir Yerushalaim" award of accomplishments in honor of Jerusalem from the mayor of Jerusalem at the time- Ehud Olmert, for his contribution to the foundation and development of the city.

2006

2006
Yechiel receives a "Notable Figure of the Industry" award from the head of the Manufacturers Association of Israel for his contribution to the industry, employment and export activity in Israel.

2007

Re-branding of the company. The company changes its logo and goes back to its original name "A.Grebelsky & Son". The vision of the company is focused on cut to size projects and product development, aiming towards innovation and design.

2008

2008
The factory supplies its stone products for various complicated and luxurious award winning projects across the world.

2009

2009
The factory acquires two Pedrini CNC machines and expands its capability to produce complicated stone details.

2010

2010
The factory produces the complicated stone work for the famous "Hachurva" Synagogue located in the Jewish Quarter in the Holy City of Jerusalem.

2011

2011
Hanan and Yechiel receive a lifetime achievement award for the memory of Mr. Aharon Grebelsky from the Minister of Industry, Shalom Simchon. They were chosen among a group of industry pioneers in Israel. The award was distributed during the Manufacturers Association of Israel's 90th anniversary celebration.

2013

2013
The factory is proud of its extended contribution to the Israeli Community throughout the years. It has been involved in causes such as raising and training guide dogs for the blind, activities for needy communities, nature preservation and development of the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem, support of the "Hapoel Jerusalem" basketball team and many other activities for the well being of the young society in Jerusalem.
