Aula Jewish Cemetery. Amstelveen, the Netherlands (1998)

About this project

The inspiration for the unique design of this beautiful Jewish Cemetery, located in Amstelveen was the Holy Western Wall. Jaap Walvisch, the architect who designed this cemetery was looking to complement the other materials used in the building, such as wood and glass. He therefore decided to go for a contrasted raw look and use massive Jerusalem Gold Natural Cleft blocks for the wall cladding and complete the look with peaceful Jerusalem Gold Honed tiles for the floor. The design inspiration is still felt but with a personalized twist which makes this structure stand out.
